House OKs $60 Million for New VA Hospital
The House yesterday approved a bill that includes $60 million for a new Veterans Affairs hospital in Louisville.
The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill is part of the continuing budget resolution for the new fiscal year.
Stuart Perelmuter, spokesman for Rep. John Yarmuth, D-3rd District, said the money would be instead of -- not in addition to -- the $45 million in a spending bill previously passed by the House.
Perelmuter said he expects the Senate to act quickly so that the legislation can be signed into law by next week.
The money would be used for various purposes, including land purchase, site preparation and early construction.
The hospital, scheduled to open in 2013, will replace the 57-year-old Veterans Affairs Medical Center off Zorn Avenue.
