Yarmuth's Registration Drive Connects to History, but Could Provide Political Boost

LOUISVILLE -- Wednesday marked the anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. For the campaign of U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, the day was marked by an event conscious of both history and politics, as Yarmuth and a collection of volunteers, staffers, and elected officials held a voter registration canvass in west Louisville.

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) will canvass neighborhoods in the west end of Louisville on Wednesday as part of a voter registration drive. The event is scheduled to coincide with the 43rd Anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act into law.

House OKs bill with $45 million for new VA hospital

WASHINGTON -- The House passed a spending bill yesterday that contains $45 million for a new Louisville veterans hospital.

The measure, which contains $118.7 billion for military construction projects and the Department of Veterans Affairs, was approved 409-4.

The money for the Louisville hospital was inserted by Rep. John Yarmuth, D-3rd District.

Funding for a new VA hospital in Louisville initially proposed by U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) has cleared another hurdle today, as the bill in which it is contained was approved by the full U.S. House.

Portlan Museum Shut for Upgrade

The Portland Museum has closed so its staff can prepare for the installation of a new climate-control system that will better preserve its collections.

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth's office announced last week that the museum, at 2308 Portland Ave., had received $364,126 in federal funding for the project.
