WASHINGTON -- If partisan politics helped kill yesterday's $700 billion bailout proposal, you couldn't tell it from how the Kentucky and Southern Indiana delegations voted.

Unregistered Kentuckians wishing to vote in November's general election have just one week to get their registration forms to their local county clerk's office. Oct. 6 is the final day to register to vote for the Nov. 4 election, and forms must be postmarked or submitted by that day.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Last night the U.S. House of Representatives approved final bipartisan legislation to strengthen protections and support for America's runaway and homeless children. The measure, the Reconnecting Homeless Youth Act (S.2982), builds on legislation authored by U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY), which the House overwhelmingly passed in June.

WASHINGTON - Rep. John Yarmuth, D-3rd District, today made public some of the details of a financial rescue plan being worked out between the Bush administration and congressional leaders.

The details are based on a meeting Yarmuth had with one of the top negotiators on the financial rescue package, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

The House yesterday approved a bill that includes $60 million for a new Veterans Affairs hospital in Louisville.

The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill is part of the continuing budget resolution for the new fiscal year.

After a powerful windstorm reeked havoc throughout Kentucky on Sunday - leaving hundreds of thousands without power - U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) sent a letter off to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali.) asking for disaster assistance funding for the 3rd Congressional District to be added to an overall disaster relief package soon to be considered in the House.

The recent improvements in the public schools of Jefferson County are wonderfully encouraging. Superintendent Sheldon Berman is to be commended.

Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Louisville, was in town Friday to promote a bill that would extend medical insurance coverage to college students forced to drop out due to illness.

"Michelle's Law" has passed the House and been introduced in the U.S. Senate.

Yarmuth and two students who survived cancer said the law is critical to protect people like them.
